ANNOUNCEMENTS

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Don’t forget to turn in your Community Service hours for your junior and previous years. Turn in as many hours that you have completed asap. All community service hours should be turned in by the end of 2nd trimester.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
SENIORS-The group photo for the yearbook will be taken on Friday, November 13 during advisory. If you want to be in the group photo or the 13-year senior photo, you must meet in the commons, ready to go at the beginning of Advisory. Wear NICE blue and white clothing. Be sure to tell your friends in running start!
Past Due-Senior Project Proposal Letter — they were due Oct 2, 2009 to Mr. Haddenham. Also mentor and parental forms.
SENIORS – If you were unable to attend the senior potluck, please pick up an envelope for your pictures in the office. These are for the senior slide show! Please include five photos from your previous school years (solo and group shots). Make sure one is your kindergarten photo. Put your name on everything and turn them in at the November class meeting. We will collect senior year photos later. If you have any questions, you may contact either Lauralee Kiesel or Carol Eldridge.
SENIORS – There are two important yearbook deadlines coming up. First, your senior portrait must be turned in no later than November 2. If you haven’t gotten your portrait taken, do it now. Otherwise, the yearbook staff will use your cowboy day picture in the senior section.
Second, it’s time for your parents to start planning your senior recognition ad in the yearbook. If you want to help them along, go to the office and pick up a Jostens flyer with all the info they need. They are due December 11th, but the ads do take some time to make, so if you want one that’s nice, you want your parents to be working on it now!

SENIOR YEARBOOK PORTRAITS
DUE DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 2009
Photos received after this date are not guaranteed to be in the yearbook.
You have several options:
- Have the photo taken privately by an area photographer. Check the yellow pages, call several and compare prices. Talk to recently graduated seniors and ask them for advice. Be sure to allow the photographer plenty of time to develop the photographs…usually two weeks. CD submissions are preferable.
- Use your picture taken on Cowboy Day or get a retake in October. If you are unsure about going to a professional photographer, make sure you get a photo by the school photographer. They will give us a copy of your portrait, even if you do not purchase a package! This portrait is great to have as backup for applications, too.
- Have someone take a digital photo of you. Make sure that their camera is set to its highest resolution or your photo will appear blurry in the yearbook. Although this may seem like the easiest method, remember that you will need to spend time and money printing your photos for friends, relatives, and applications.
Whatever method you select, please follow these specifications:
- Digital photos may be submitted on a CD or emailed as a jpeg file to barbara_parent@csd49.org
- If hard copy, photo size — 2” wide by 3” tall
- Head and shoulder pose
- Head size (if hard copy) – approx 1” diameter
- No props, including hats, pets, sunglasses or other people
- No shirts with commercial logos (John Deere, etc)
- School appropriate clothing. No cleavage.
Note: The yearbook editors reserve the right to reject photos that do not meet the standards of the yearbook. Exceptions to the above are sometimes made, but you must submit one pose that meets specifications by the deadline.

Time line for meeting graduation requirements
and transition to 4 year college
January JUNIOR year.…schedule first SATs, explore www.collegeboard.com
Spring break JUNIOR year….visit colleges of interest, contact coaches if interested in playing a sport in college, start thinking about senior project. Make sure your portfolio is up to date.
May- June JUNIOR year….write senior project proposal (plan to complete it by December Senior year), attend CHS Post HS planning meeting.
Summer between JUNIOR and SENIOR years…….visit schools, contact coaches, consider doing Senior project, schedule second SATs in the Fall, consider doing some of the 20 hours of volunteer work, and asking for letters of recommendation. You will need 3-5 letters.
Fall SENIOR year……narrow college choices to 2-3. It costs to apply to each college, and allows you to focus your application efforts on your favorite schools. Plan Senior pictures…..hard to take outdoor pictures mid October- March. Make sure you can get them back in time to go out with announcements. Expect to pay $100-500 for these. Schedule your Senior project, if not done already. SATs and volunteer work..
October.…Look for announcements, gown, tassel etc order from CHS. Expect $100 plus here as well. Can make payments. How are you doing on your letters of recommendation?
Compare your SAT scores with your schools averages.
November SENIOR year……most colleges start accepting applications the 1st. Find out your schools dates. Research your schools early admission programs. Often you can just accept one offer. Some schools have their school scholarship application at the end of their admission application. If not, look for the scholarship application. Some schools you have to accept admission (deposit required) before you can fill out their scholarship application. Save your essays, they will come in handy for future essays.
January 1st SENIOR year……all applications are in and perhaps you have even heard back from a few. Visit again, talk with counselors.. Narrow it down to 1-2. Accept admission (send in forms and deposit) , find scholarship application or process (some require an interview). Start working on your scholarship portfolio for the community scholarships.
FAFSA ! All schools require this to be done to be eligable for grants and loans. Parents will need to have their taxes started, as line totals are needed. Completion requires an electronic signature, so apply for that ASAP. You can use last years tax numbers, but if they are different you have to amend the form.
February…….senior project “reflection” paper due.
March SENIOR year…..Scholarship portfolio due, 20 volunteer hours to be complete. Senior project presentations.
April….Financial Aid offers arrive.
May……Senior research paper due (part of senior project) . Prom. Send out graduation invites. Don’t let those grades drop or you may lose some of your financial aid and or admission offers.
June….YOU made it !!!! Congratulations !!!!
