Family Access & Scheduling Info (NEW)
Earning Credits
Students and parents: Here are important reminders about class registration.
- Please remember that schedule changes are only allowed during the first three days of a trimester.
- Students who add a class after the 3rd day of the trimester will not be eligible to receive credit in that class.
- We understand that on occasion, students may need to drop a class after the first three days. To drop a class after the first three days, pick up a form in the counseling office. This must be completed and signed by your parent, the principal, and the counselor.
- Up to the end of the 8th week of a trimester, students may drop a class and a “W” will be placed on the transcript. After the 8th week, an “F” will be entered on the transcript. According to state law, an “F” remains on the high school transcript permanently.
- Students wishing to take a 7th class during any trimester will be charged a $100 fee.

FAMILY ACCESS – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q – Why should I use Family Access?
A – Family Access is a web based tool designed to enhance parent/guardian and school communication. Your use of the Family Access website is voluntary.
Q – Is there a fee for the use of Family Access?
A – Family Access is provided as a free service by Chimacum School District.
Q - Why do I pick up my password and user name at my child’s school?
A – For security reasons, we are requesting that all parents or guardians pick up their password and user name at their student’s school. Mailing passwords may not be secure and logins/passwords could be compromised. Additionally, it is important we know the right people are receiving login information. If school staff doesn’t know you, picture identification may be required.
Q – Can other people see my child’s personal information on Family Access?
A - Family Access is password protected. Keeping your login/password safe should insure no one else can view your student’s information.
Q – Does Family Access create a lot of extra work for school staff?
A – Family Access does create some extra work, but not as much as might be expected. Safeguarding your login/password will save school staff time spent retrieving that information. Changes or additions to your student’s record are now done in “real time”; when a student charges school lunch Monday at noon, his or her lunch charge shows up on Family Access about two minutes later. Grading/assignment information is available shortly after it is input by teachers if this is available at your student’s school.
Q – When I log on to Family Access, I lose my connection after three to five minutes. Why?
A – Family Access has a default security setting that will terminate your connection if your computer is idle for longer than three to five minutes. This feature is designed to protect against unauthorized access and cannot be changed.
Q – Are all of Chimacum Schools on Family Access?
A – Each school provides Family Access as a service to parents and guardians, but the information provided by each school will vary depending on the age of student. For example, middle school and high school students can see grades and class assignments, but elementary and primary students can’t because those schools don’t use a web-based gradebook system.
Q – I have forgotten or lost my login/password information, what should I do?
A – To insure security and confidentiality please return to your student’s school and staff will retrieve that information for you.
Q – With all the concern today about Internet safety and security, how do I know Family Access is safe?
A – Family Access uses Security Socket Layer (SSL) encryption as the security layer for data presented on the Web. This is the same encryption system used by sites that accept credit card numbers, and other personal data that must be secure. Each individual, whether student, parent or staff member, must be given a user name and password and be designated as a member of a household linked to a student in order to view Family Access information.
Q – Can I get my high school student’s transcript through Family Access?
A – Unfortunately, transcripts are not available through Family Access. They should be requested through the high school. Transcript records are retained for 100 years as per state law.
