STUDENTS-COMMUNITY SERVICE
*** N E W*** Students and parents you can check community service online.
Sign into Family Access; use your login and password. Click on the “Test Scores” link on the left side of your screen under General Information. From the list of tests choose “CS” and click on the show scores link. These will be the completed community services and any hours that are in that are extra toward your next community service. Community service should be done in the year that it is required. Hope this helps you know where you are in completing community service requirements.

STUDENTS & STAFF – We are on an assembly schedule tomorrow: 1st period 7:45-8:34, 2nd period 8:38-9:22, 3rd period 9:30-10:14, 4th period 10:18-11:04, assembly 11:08-12:03, lunch 12:03-12:33, 5th period 12:37-1:23, 6th period 1:27-2:20(SSR).
STUDENTS & STAFF – Four days until all of you healthy students over 16 can give blood. Your donations are split into three3 parts, so you could save three lives with just about an hour of your time. Be sure to sign up in the library before Friday.
STUDENTS & STAFF – The ASB meeting next week will be 4th period Monday, November 16, and we will have class meetings Tuesday, November 17.
SENIORS – There is an important senior class meeting in Mrs. Sanford’s room tomorrow at lunch. Students need to bring their senior slide show picture envelopes to the meeting or turn them in to the office ASAP.
STUDENTS – The Community Enrichment Alliance (CEA) of Port Ludlow would like to have a few student volunteers to help with the Port Ludlow Christmas Homes Tours, which is from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm December 5th. Students have helped in the past and are a great asset to the program. Please sign up in the office, and earn volunteer credits.
STUDENTS – High school basketball practice begins November 16. We will be having our parent information night Thursday at 6:00 pm. This is a great time to meet the coaches and make sure all paperwork is taken care of so you can practice on the first day. The WIAA requires student-athletes to have 10 practices before they can play in a game. There are only 11 practice dates (including Saturdays) before our first game, so it is important that all players are eligible on day 1 of practice.
STUDENTS – There is a job opening for a library page position at the Jefferson County Library. Applicants must be at least 16. Hours will include Saturdays, Sundays and evenings. The hourly rate is $8.55/hour. Applications are available at the Jefferson County Library.
STUDENTS – This is a reminder that if you want to get a PE waiver for the fall sport you just participated in, you should get a form in the office. You must apply for the waiver.
STUDENTS – Rhododendron Festival Royalty applications are in the office for 11th and 12th grade students. The applicant must be a full-time student, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. The deadline is November 20.
JUNIORS/SENIORS – There is a junior/senior prom meeting today @ 6:30 pm in the commons.
SENIOR PARENT GROUP – There is a senior parent group meeting in the commons today @ 7:00 pm.
SENIORS – The group photo for the yearbook will be taken on Friday during advisory. If you want to be in the group photo or the 13-year senior photo, you must meet in the commons, ready to go at the beginning of Advisory. Wear NICE blue and white clothing. Be sure to tell your friends in running start!
SENIORS – If you would like to order senior t-shirts, pay Miss Bemis in the office. It is $7.50 for white and $8.00 for black. Remember to give your size. The deadline to order is Friday.
STUDENTS – Conditioning/open gym for all students is Mondays-Thursdays. Conditioning is from 5:00-6:00pm and open gym is from 6:00-7:00pm.
STUDENTS – Coach Kevin Coate is having open gym Saturday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm, not Fridays.
VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS - The volleyball awards dessert banquet is Thursday at 7:00 pm in the commons. Players, please bring (1) your parents, (2) your jersey and (3) your favorite dessert.
TIP OF THE WEEK – In any trimester, when a student accumulates six (6) unexcused absences in any class, the student and custodial parent/guardian will be notified there could be a loss of credit. The student will remain in the class and be allowed to go through the appeals process if they are receiving a passing grade at the time of the appeal process. Therefore, if a student reaches the six (6) unexcused absence limit early in the trimester, it will be to the student’s benefit to remain in the class to continue making progress towards a passing grade. In any trimester, when a student accumulates eight (8) excused absences, a parent conference will be held to work out an attendance plan.

The Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth The scholarships will range from $1,000 to $4,000 per year.

To be eligible for the Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth the student must:
* Be a permanent foster care youth in Washington State or in federal or tribal out-of-home care
* Be enrolled as a Washington State high school senior and on track to graduate from high school during the 2009-2010 academic year
* Have resided in Washington State for at least three academic years prior to high school graduation
* Have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least a 2.0
The scholarship application must be postmarked no later than November 10, 2009.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Washington Chapter
The O’Donnell Family MS Scholarship Fund, in collaboration with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship Program, provides scholarships specifically to students from Washington State. The scholarship is open to anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of someone with multiple sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited post secondary school for the first time. This fall, the Washington Scholarship Coalition will launch theWashBoard.org to make it easier for Washington students to efficiently find and apply for relevant scholarships. Free of cost for both students AND providers, theWashBoard.org matches scholarship seekers with scholarship providers. Designed to be a one-stop-site, theWashBoard.org is a free, student-centered, online clearinghouse for Washington students seeking college scholarships. This user-friendly site allows students to search and apply for verified scholarships that are specific to their academic interests, college or university, or other criteria. And it is advertising and spam-free.
The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers is offering The Walter J Clore Scholarship for Viticulture and Enology. This scholarship may be used by a high school graduate who is enrolled or is planning to enroll in a college or university, OR a student already enrolled in areas of study pertaining to the wine industry. Preference will be given to students who are residents of the State of Washington, but not limited to study at a Washington state college or university. Selection is based upon academic merit, leadership abilities and interest in the study of enology and/or viticulture. The Elks National Foundation Scholarships for Elks Families. Legacy Award. Must be the child or Grandchild of an active Elks member, HS Senior, going to college and who exhibits the values of the Elks National Foundation: Knowledge, Charity, Community and Integrity. The S. W. Preston Scholarship, offered by Preston Premium Wines and Preston Vineyards through the Washington Wine Industry Foundation, is offering an annual $3,000 scholarship. This is a rotating scholarship awarded one year to a student enrolled or planning to enroll in the viticulture program at a Washington college or university; and the subsequent year to a student enrolled or planning to enroll in the enology program at a Washington college or university. Whitworth University has several academic scholarships available for new 2009-2010 undergraduate students, ranging from $7,000 to $14,000 per year. Washington State Elks offers the 2009-2010 Vocational Grants. There are 32 Grants from $900 to $1500 for qualified applicants. This scholarship is for Washington state students who plan to pursue an eligible vocational/technical course of study.
