STUDENTS-COMMUNITY SERVICE

*** N E W*** Students and parents  you can check community service online.

Sign into Family Access; use your login and password.  Click on the “Test Scores” link on the left side of your screen under General Information.  From the list of tests choose “CS” and click on the show scores link.  These will be the completed community services and any hours that are in that are extra toward your next community service.  Community service should be done in the year that it is required.  Hope this helps you know where you are in completing community service requirements.

STUDENTS & STAFF – Only one day left until the NHS blood drive! Be sure to eat and drink lots beforehand, and sign up in the library. Afterwards, you get as many cookies and crackers as you can eat and as much juice as you can drink.

A representative for the Rhododendron Festival will be in the commons during lunch on Friday. She will be here to answer any questions students may have about running for Rhody Royalty.

STUDENTS –
Trying to find the right college? Want information about careers and job skills, apprenticeships, financial aid and cost comparisons? Washington’s community and technical colleges have a fantastic website. Go to CheckOutACollege.com.

STUDENTS –
Students who are taking PE next trimester and have not purchased a PE t-shirt need to purchase one ASAP. They are $15 each.

STUDENTS –
All students planning on playing basketball this season need to have all paperwork completed and participation fee paid before they can practice. Check with Mr. Porter or Miss Bemis to find out what might be missing. Forms have changed slightly since fall sports, so all players will need to check in the office. First practice is Monday. There is a basketball parent night today at 6:00 in the high school commons.

STUDENTS –
County Rec is looking for basketball coaches for their basketball season. This would be a good community service project. Call Chris Macklin @ the County Rec 385-2221.

FBLA  –
The last day to sign up for FBLA this year is THIS Friday, November 13th. We are late this year and must get everyone registered. The registration date will not be extended. The cost is $25. Please pay in the office and take your receipt to Mr. White. See Mr. White if you have questions.

FBLA MEMBERS –
Our “Welcome New Members” pizza party will be Wednesday, November 18th at lunch in Mr. White’s room. Only paid FBLA members will be allowed to attend.

SENIORS –
If you would like to order senior t-shirts, pay Miss Bemis in the office. It is $7.50 for white and $8.00 for black. Remember to give your size. The deadline to order is Friday.

SENIORS –
Your reflection essay is due Friday.

SENIORS – If you signed up to do pre-sales for See’s candy, please find Jarred Mahoney at lunch for your packet. You can pick up a packet even if you didn’t sign up.

SENIORS –
The group photo for the yearbook will be taken on Friday during advisory. If you want to be in the group photo or the 13-year senior photo, you must meet in the commons, ready to go at the beginning of Advisory. Wear NICE blue and white clothing. Be sure to tell your friends in running start!

GIRLS SOCCER –
Please return uniforms to Mr. Berdinner in room 913 (Pi classrooms) ASAP. The soccer banquet will be at Ferino’s at 6:00 pm Tuesday, November 17th.

STUDENTS –
The Community Enrichment Alliance (CEA) of Port Ludlow would like to have a few student volunteers to help with the Port Ludlow Christmas Homes Tours, which is from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm December 5th. Students have helped in the past and are a great asset to the program. Please sign up in the office, and earn volunteer credits.

This is a reminder that if you want to get a PE waiver for the fall sport you just participated in, you should get a form in the office. You must apply for the waiver.

Rhododendron Festival Royalty applications are in the office for 11th and 12th grade students. The applicant must be a full-time student, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. The deadline is November 20.

Coach Kevin Coate is having open gym Saturday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS  -
The volleyball awards dessert banquet is today at 7:00 pm in the commons. Players, please bring (1) your parents, (2) your jersey and (3) your favorite dessert.

TIP OF THE WEEK –
In any trimester, when a student accumulates six (6) unexcused absences in any class, the student and custodial parent/guardian will be notified there could be a loss of credit. The student will remain in the class and be allowed to go through the appeals process if they are receiving a passing grade at the time of the appeal process. Therefore, if a student reaches the six (6) unexcused absence limit early in the trimester, it will be to the student’s benefit to remain in the class to continue making progress towards a passing grade. In any trimester, when a student accumulates eight (8) excused absences, a parent conference will be held to work out an attendance plan.

The Kelly Foundation of Washington offers the Ewing C. Kelly Scholarship – high school seniors are eligible. Applicants will be judged on citizenship and academic achievement. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Washington Chapter
The O’Donnell Family MS Scholarship Fund, in collaboration with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship Program, provides scholarships specifically to students from Washington State.  The scholarship is open to anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of someone with multiple sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited post secondary school for the first time. Designed to be a one-stop-site, theWashBoard.org is a free, student-centered, online clearinghouse for Washington students seeking college scholarships. This user-friendly site allows students to search and apply for verified scholarships that are specific to their academic interests, college or university, or other criteria. And it is advertising and spam-free.

The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers is offering The Walter J Clore Scholarship for Viticulture and Enology.
This scholarship may be used by a high school graduate who is enrolled or is planning to enroll in a college or university, OR a student already enrolled in areas of study pertaining to the wine industry. The Christian Connector provides a FREE Christian college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian College scholarship drawing.  Students can simply log onto www.christianconnector.com <http://www.christianconnector.com>  to request information and be entered in the scholarship drawing.

The S. W. Preston Scholarship, offered by Preston Premium Wines and Preston Vineyards through the Washington Wine Industry Foundation, is offering an annual $3,000 scholarship.  This is a rotating scholarship awarded one year to a student enrolled or planning to enroll in the viticulture program at a Washington college or university; and the subsequent year to a student enrolled or planning to enroll in the enology program at a Washington college or university. Washington State Elks offers the 2009-2010 Vocational Grants. There are 32 Grants from $900 to $1500 for qualified applicants.  This scholarship is for Washington state students who plan to pursue an eligible vocational/technical course of study.
